HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Harlingen police arrested a 19 year-old man after smelling marijuana in the apartment where he was taking care of his 4 month-old sibling.
On Saturday, September 7th police were dispatched to the 800 block of North 27th Street in reference to a disturbance. While investigating, officers made contact with Mark Anthony Gonzales, 19, in a nearby apartment which had a strong odor of marijuana inside.
Officers entered the apartment to find a 4 month-old infant inside where Gonzales had been smoking marijuana. Police report that Gonzales was babysitting for his mother who had gone out with a friend.
Gonzales was arrested the infant was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center or evaluation and Child Protective Services was notified about the incident.
Gonzales was charged with abandoning / endangering a child and possession of marijuana.
