Part of a possible plea in federal court.
McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — At a detention hearing in federal court Wednesday, the accused president of the Progreso ISD Board of Trustees, Michael Vela, 29, volunteered to step down from his position so the district can continue to operate without distraction.
A court decision on whether to allow Vela, his brother and his father out of jail will not be made by the court until Thursday afternoon.
Vela with his father, Jose Vela Jr., 64, and brother, Progreso Mayor Omar Vela, 35, were arrested by federal authorities August 28th on charges of bribery, kickbacks and conspiracy in the School District and City government.
