RGV KVEO (NEWSCENTER 23) — The peak of hurricane season is about a week away.
While we've had a pretty calm season up to this point, meteorologists and officials from the insurance council of Texas reminded people, now is the time to get prepared, if you haven't already.
The insurance council recommends residents living along the Texas coast have homeowners, windstorm and flood policies.
"There are some things you need to know, like a windstorm policy you can't get when a named storm is in the gulf of Mexico and a flood insurance policy you can buy one today but it;s going to take 30 days to take effect."
Hurricane season runs through November.
