RGV KVEO (NEWSCENTER 23) — You'll see twice as many police officers than usual on the roads throughout the valley this labor day weekend.
It's labor day weekend, and that means more people, more alcohol and more police.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, twice the normal number of patrol officers will be on the lookout for any hiccups in traffic and general safety.
Because alcohol related accidents can be an issue after holiday festivities, police are making this a particular point of concern.
"DPS has increased DWI patrols from August the nineteenth through September the ninth, this includes the labor day weekend. DPS officers will focus in high risk locations where alcohol related crashes are most frequent. Keeping our roadways safe is a vital concern for DPS."
Officer Hernandez had a few final words of advice to give to drivers this holiday weekend.
"We ask the public to be responsible, drive safe, drive defensively, don't drink and drive. If you plan on drinking, make sure that you designate a sober driver."
Traffic on the water across the state of Texas will also be heavily patrolled this weekend.
