PSJA, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Teachers and staff from the new John "Jack" McKeever Elementary in Alamo are ready to welcome their students Monday in their new state of the art facility. This new building located at 1310 W. Ridge Rd. replaces James Bowie Elementary.
The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo School District has been undergoing an extensive renovation and construction plan replacing and/or renovating older facilities to ensure the 32,000-student body is housed in quality classrooms. At the beginning of last school year, PSJA ISD opened five new schools, mostly elementary schools and one middle school.
Construction for McKeever Elementary started last summer. The new 88,478 square foot building was constructed for approximately $13 million, including land and infrastructure. The campus has special features like a high-efficiency HVAC system, LED lighting, instructional gardens and state of the art technology and system controls.
Over 600 students will now call this school their home. Staff members cannot wait to open the doors Monday, August 26 during the first day of school for the 2013-2014 school year.
