RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Metro Connect bus service will soon provide routes linking Brownsville, McAllen, Harlingen and South Padre Island thanks to a federal grant.
The Valley was awarded $1.4 million for the regional bus service from the Texas Department of Transportation.
There will be three bus lines which will be coded by color, red, blue and green, which will link to various cities and each line charging a different fee.
District 34 Congressman Vilemon Vela was at a ceremony announcing the new service and stated, "With these buses, the people that are traveling from the University of Texas at Brownsville and UTPA , will make it more affordable and a lot easier for them to do. As the merger comes to fruition, it'll only make this effort all the more important."
