Davenport, IA — A woman caught shoplifting in Davenport, Iowa was beaten by an arresting officer and the incident was caught on camera, Shellie Nelson reports the woman wants the officer fired.
Brandie Redell was punched in the head and face while being questioned for shoplifting by a Davenport police officer, while another held her legs, all caught on video at the Von Maur store in Davenport.
Brandie Redell, Beaten by Police, "I was asking him why was this happening and I was crying. I was screaming, begging for someone to help me, anybody."
Redell was taken to the hospital, then jail, she says she's lost 60% of her vision from the blows, "He hit me four times, yes he did, not Jacobson but officer crow."
The officer, Scott Crow said in his report he hit Redell because she bit his finger, but the video shows him lunging at her, hitting her with both hands, making contact first.
Brandie Redell, "I admittedly bit him at that point yes because I had tried everything else to get some help and nobody in the room be it the Von Maur people or the officers would do anything."
Redell says Officer Crow copped an attitude early on, when she was on the phone with her baby's father, a man known to police.
Brandie Redell, "He's like, oh, you're associated with him and i said yeah and he said this is about to get really ugly really quick."
James Crosby, Friend, "It's a case of police brutality open and shut and this is not the only case, this is just one case that happened to be on video."
No criminal charges were ever filed against Officer Crow although there was some sort of disciplinary action, but the chief isn't saying exactly what that is and remains on the force.
Chief Frank Donchez, Davenport Police, "This is a case where our policies were violated, we investigated and we instituted discipline accordingly."
Reporter Shellie Nelson, "You can't tell me how he was punished?"
Chief Frank Donchez, "I cannot. It's a personnel matter and we do not discuss or release personnel matter.
Brandie Redell, "I'd like to see officer crow fired but I don't think it's going to happen at this point so I guess all people can do is band together and say we're not going to take this anymore
