Purchased real estate properties for drug trafficker.
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Brownsville real estate agent has been arrested following an indictment of money laundering for a drug trafficker.
Freddy Centeno, of Brownsville, was arrested and expected to make an appearance in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan.
On Tuesday, July 23rd, a sealed indictment was returned and unsealed when Centeno was arrested.
The indictment alleges Centeno, a licensed real estate agent, assisted a narcotic trafficker to launder money by purchasing properties in Brownsville.
Authorities were able to arrest Centeno as a result of an investigation dubbed Operation Spike Strip which targeted the Armando Arambul organization operating under the Gulf cartel in Matamoros, Mexico.
Investigators discovered that Arambul and others transported multi-ton quantities of cocaine to Houston and other major U.S. cities and profiting millions of dollars.
