RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — U.S. Border Patrol agents, from the Rio Grande Valley sector, have saved the lives of several illegal immigrants and found the bodies of others over the past four days.
Agents, assigned to the Kingsville station, rescued one immigrant on Friday morning with the help of a helicopter from the Office of Air and Marine.
On Monday morning, agents working the McAllen area helped rescued two women who had scaled to the top of the border fence, but were unable to climb down. The Hidalgo Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted in rescuing the women.
A total of five bodies were found in different sectors patrolled by Border Patrol agents.
The remains of an illegal immigrant was found on a ranch in Falfurrias and the cause of death was determined to be exposure to the elements.
Two bodies were found floating in the Rio Grande River by personnel patrolling the river in a helicopter with one found south of Hidalgo and another near La Joya.
At a ranch, near Falfurrias, a man from El Salvador, reported that his wife died while traveling through the brush, agents recovered her body.
And finally, one immigrant was found on a ranch, but died later en route to a hospital.
