HARLINGEN — They've got the heart, they've put in the work, but will they bring home the gold? The Harlingen Aquatics team is headed to nationals in just days.
"It's my passion,” said 10 year old Camille.
About a dozen Harlingen area youth are getting in a few last swim sessions before heading off to nationals in Ann Arbor, Michigan this weekend.
"It takes a lot of dedication as long as you really have the mindset for it you can go far in it," said 15 year old Mario.
Here locally they compete as the Harlingen Aquatics team, but when they go outside the valley, they team up with other swim clubs in the upper valley in order to be more competitive. When they join forces they're know as the STARS, South Texas All Region Swimmers.
Tuesday’s early morning practice is just the first for many of these kids.
"I swim twice a day, I swim in the morning and in the afternoon Monday through Friday," said 10 year old Milani.
The kids are hoping the many hours spent preparing in this pool will help them bring back gold in their individual events.
Competition starts Friday.
