BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Gladys Porter Zoo is hosting a celebration party for one of it's oldest residents who is turned 50 years-old.
Zoo officials held a celebration party on Friday, July 19th for longtime resident, Susie, a Sumatran orangutan.
Susie was one of the first animals to join the Gladys Porter Zoo family back in 1971 and one of Mrs. Porter's fondest animals and often seen embracing the young orangutan.
Throughout the years Susie has raised five young and lived in the exhibit with her children and grandchildren.
The zoo presented her with her own low sugar birthday cake topped with fruit and gifts.
