HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX-15) announced a grant of $3,765,127 was awarded to the Hidalgo County Head Start Program, in Edinburg, by the U.S. Health and Human Services.
"Head Start is such an important program that helps so many of our youngest children and low income families in Deep South Texas, so I am very happy to know that the Hidalgo County Head Start Program was selected to receive this impressive federal grant," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "When it comes to education and health the Head Start program is the beginning for many of our families to get a good start."
Hidalgo County Head Start Program Director Edmundo Garcia says their program serves 3,690 children county wide. The Hidalgo County Head Start Program has 800 employees and assists low income families through education programs and health services.
