RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — If you've noticed, the new highway signs are up for I-69, they were unveiled on Monday morning for the newly designated highways and freeways.
If you're worried about confusion, the new signs will be placed above the old highway names.
Highway 77, going south from Raymondville, will become I-69 East and Highway 281, between Edinburg and Pharr, will become I-69 central.
District 15 Representative Ruben Hinojosa stated, "It definitely will improve the economy, improve the creation of jobs, it will give us the revenue that we will be able to invest in education both at K through 12 and at the community colleges. The university's giving us a trained workforce, more companies are going to come in, the tourism is going to double and triple."
Leaders are working to make I-69 a 1,600 mile road from Texas all the way up to Michigan.
