MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A new senior center promises to offer free programs to members.
The Cross Roads Senior Center on Fern Avenue in McAllen is open to anybody 60 years or older. There are wellness programs, a gym, computers and arts projects for seniors.
"It's important because all of us are living longer," said Carol Zernial, WellMed's executive director. "This area is a retirement area, and so we've got a lot of seniors here and we want to make sure everybody's healthy... But it's really a holistic approach, it's health and wellness and socialization and making friends and really bringing the community together to have a better life."
The center is located at 1301 East Fern Avenue near North Jackson Road. A similar center in Harlingen boasts 700 members.
