HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — "This is a 6.3 three liter diesel, used more for the heavy duty trucks." said TSTC student Samuel Reyes.
A truck was donated to Texas State Technical College's Automotive Department by American Electric Power.
The big diesel truck will give students like Samuel Reyes a hands-on learning experience.
"This a 550, one of the bigger ones, it has the dual ends for transmissions, the engine is bigger, a different operating systems as far as the computers, so it's advanced as far as what it has on it, and it’s an industry type vehicle for fleets, it gives an edge if we do get hired by people like AEP."
Besides the donated truck AEP is starting an internship program with the college, one student per semester from the automotive department will be awarded a paid internship with the company.
"It gives that student who is selected by TSTC an opportunity to work for a large corporation in the fleet department, and not only get practical real world experience.” said AEP Texas’s Frank Espinosa.
The internship with AEP and TSTC starts this fall.
