Wife smiles, giggles, sounds like she's planning a vacation, while planning hit on husband
A Michigan woman has pleaded guilty to hiring a hitman to kill her husband.
The hitman-to-be was actually an undercover cop.
The sting was set up after a coworker contacted police, saying Julia Merfeld told him she wanted her husband killed.
In undercover police videos, she sounds like she's planning a vacation, rather than her husband's murder.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
"So I guess we got a little business to discuss?"
That's 21 year old Julia smiling right before discussing how to carry out her husband's killing.
"You want it to look like a break in, someone broke in?"
"We we're talking about that took... I might be able to get him outside. I have a girlfriend who wants to move in with me and I don't want her to be scared to move in with me if she thinks we were broken into and that Jake got you know, yeah so I'm kind of afraid of that because I want her to move in with me because I don't want to live there by myself afterwards."
"So you don't want it in the house then."
"Because it would be messy in the house."
She then takes out her phone.
"I was looking at my calendar and I was thinking either the 18 of April or the 25."
Both days when she is working.
"I just want to make it as non-suspicious as possible."
They decided on a break-in as the cover up before they meet again to seal the deal.
"How you doing?"
"How are you?"
Showing him a layout of the home; where to park.
"And then the front door is here. This is the main door, that's the one we always use, the key works for either door though."
And a picture of her husband.
So why do it? She says they were fighting.
"As terrible as it, sounds it's easier then divorcing him, I didn't have to worry about the judgment of my family. I didn't have to worry about breaking his heart."
Julia says she's been thinking about this for a while and it's the best choice.
"Just make it painless..."
"I'm just going to take him head on there and I'm going to shoot him in the face."
For 50-thousand dollars the deal was made.
The money coming from her husband's life-insurance.
"Ok, yeah good luck."
"Good luck to you too."
Merfeld was arrested a short time later.
She pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder last month.
Her sentencing is July 30th.
She faces a minimum of six years in prison.
Believe it or not, her husband says he doesn't want her to spend any time in jail.
