McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Country superstar Carrie Underwood is coming to the Rio Grande Valley.
Underwood is headlining this year's Stars Scholarship Fund concert. Stars helps raise money for college scholarships for students in South Texas. Last year's concert raised around $2.3 million to help about 1,100 students.
In the past, Blake Shelton, Sugarland and Brad Paisley have headlined the event.
"If we keep getting South Texas and the Valley to step up in the education, then we'll see the Valley go up," said Greg LaMantia, Vice Chairman of Stars. "Because my father always liked to say, 'no matter how big the boat behind the dam, the water rises, all the boats rise. The little boats rise and the big boats rise.' So it's extremely important that we continue to push for education."
The concert will be Sept. 6 at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo. Tickets go on sale this Friday and range from $75 to $200.
