HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Harlingen police arrested a driver who lead officers on a high speed chase and then colliding into another vehicle and fleeing the scene.
On Wednesday, June 26, around 11:21 in the morning, officers were dispatched to Morgan Blvd. and Austin Avenue in reference to a Lincoln truck driving recklessly.
An officer spotted the vehicle and witnessed the driver disregard a stop sign, lose control at an intersection and nearly collide with another vehicle at the intersection of 13th and Rio Hondo Road.
The pursuing officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver continued at a high rate of speed causing the officer to discontinue the pursuit, he was able to get the license plate identifying the owner of the vehicle to be Jason William Rutland, 40 years of age.
A second call was made to police about the same truck colliding with another vehicle on Loop 499 and 13th Street and then fleeing south on Gabriel's Landing.
Officers did locate the Lincoln truck, parked and unoccupied, at a residence and knocked at the residence door in an attempt to speak to the Rutland believed to be inside the home.
No one answered and officers forced their way into the residence finding Rutland locked inside the master bedroom.
Rutland was arrested and charged with evading arrest, reckless driving and fleeing from the scene of an accident and a bond set at $42,500.
