WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWS CENTER 23) — "The yeas on this bill are 68, the nays are 32. The Bill as amended is passed."
With that, the bi-partisan comprehensive immigration reform bill passed in the senate today.
The Immigration reform bill combines measures favored by the left and by the right. It provides a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants. The bill also allocates billions of dollars to be spent on securing the U.S. border with Mexico.
The bill now goes to the Republican controlled house, where most conservatives oppose it.
The current immigration system has not had a large-scale overhaul since 1986.
