SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — It was a dream come true for a Houston boy who wanted to be a pirate, as part of Make-A-Wish.
Newscenter 23 reporter Matt Fernandez was on South Padre Island as a three year old lymphoma patient claimed his treasure.
This is 3 year old Gethin Rutter, his wish, to be a pirate.
Gethin started his big day off learning some pirate tricks, which he mastered.
The adventure officially began as they hopped on board, with
the whole Rutter family taking a picture with the pirates.
As the boat set sail Gethin and the youngsters fought it out with water guns.
Then it was time for the real pirate stuff,finding the treasure!
The treasure was spotted and the pirates reeled in their booty.
Gethin opened up the chest to see what was inside.
At the end Gethin and kids were named honorary pirates.
The Rutter family says this was day they truly will remember.
"It was absolutely amazing, we will never forget it, will always be in our memories."said Gethins father Gordon Rutter.
"It's good, what we learned especially with our son’s illness, you can live each day to the best, days like this you can make so many memories, and we treasure them forever."said Gethins Mother Rebecca Rutter.
"What do you think about your brother what does he mean to you? He is pretty brave."said Gethin’s sister Isabella Rutter.
