HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — A Harlingen landlord used his authority to sexually assault a young girl for nearly a year.
On Tuesday, June 4, police were called to the 2000 block of Buena Vista in reference to a mother wanting to report that her 14 year-old daughter had been sexually abused.
The mother stated that her daughter made an outcry and that their former landlord, Hector Vargas Hernandez, 44, had sexually abused her approximately five times when she was 10 and 11 years-old.
The victim reported she had been abused from September 2009 thru May 2010 by Hernandez, who threaten to evict her family if she told anyone about the abuse.
Police arrested Hernandez on June 14th and charged him with aggravated sexual assault of a child with a bond set at $750,000.
