RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Border Patrol agents seized nearly eight tons of marijuana, in the past week, in separate incidents.
The biggest seizure occurred at the Falfurrias checkpoint on Thursday, June 13th, when a K-9 alerted officers of possible narcotics to a tractor trailer.
Agents inspected the shipment and found over 3,500 pounds of marijuana.
In a second incident, agents working on horseback in the Los Ebanos area, spotted a minivan being loaded with marijuana and notified a DPS helicopter which followed the vehicle.
The driver and a passenger jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot, with the driver getting away and the passenger being arrested.
Agents inspected the minivan and found more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana.
Several additional seizures throughout the week brought the total amount of marijuana seized to nearly 16,000 pounds.
