BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — There were plenty of high fives and smiles at the Brownsville Sports Park on Saturday. Saturday marked the first scrimmage for the STAR league. The STAR league is a baseball league that was started in Brownsville for special needs children.
"It's appropriate we are playing on this field, this is a million dollar field, and they are million dollar players, let’s get this first game going, let’s play ball."said Sergio Zarate, founder of the STAR league.
Saturday’s game was Brownsville versus Port Isabel.
The first official game of the league is expected to start in October.
