WESLACO, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Greg Ayala was voted off the Weslaco Parks Advisory Board. He had problems with the state of city park playgrounds, so he wrote to Texas Parks and Wildlife.
He didn't even know the board was planning to vote him off.
"People say I jumped chain of command," Ayala said. "I think if you look at it, I tried calling the city manager, would not return phone calls. I tried calling the mayor, would not return phone calls. I tried to call commissioners, would not return phone calls. The reality is, no one really cared. The reality is, it takes a normal citizen to rise to the occasion and try to make things happen."
Weslaco City Manager Leonardo Olivares couldn't be reached for comment, but said on Twitter that "Ayala overreacted" and that Ayala "wanted to immediately close all parks." He added that Weslaco "parks are safe."
