RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — An incurable disease is destroying citrus groves in Florida and is threatening the State of Texas.
Scientists don't have answers for the disease known as "Citrus Greening" which doesn't allow the trees to move water and nutrients, so oranges and other fruits cannot ripen.
Citrus Greening is spread by an insect that feeds on the trees and threatens the citrus industry which is worth several billions of dollars.
State, federal and private organizations have pledged millions of dollars to research a solution to the problem.
