AUSTIN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A new Texas state bill has been passed which will make the roads safer for passenger vehicles.
House Bill 3121, would allow the state to designate a new corridor for overweight trucks from international ports of entry to the Port of Brownsville.
The bill, written by Senator Eddie Lucio III, is intended to facilitate trade between the U.S. and Mexico.
Currently, The Port of Brownsville issues licenses for the oversized trucks with fees used to maintain the corridor.
The corridors consist of State Highway 48, 4, State Highway 77/83 and the East Loop Corridor, with the bill being in effect starting September 1, 2013.
