LYFORD, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — In the small city of Lyford the Willacy County District Attorney's office raided the El Toro Game room and Horseshoe arcades over the weekend as part of Operation Impunity. They seized more than 550 gambling devices and more than $120,000, this according to a tweet on twitter from Willacy County District Attorney office.
The tweet says this raid is not associated with Operation Bishop which is an 18-month criminal investigation being conducted by the Cameron County DA's office aimed at shutting down illegal 8-liners.
Jose Gomez lives just a few feet away from both places that were raided in Lyford. Gomez who hopes to be in law enforcement in the future is glad they are shutting them down.
According the DA’s tweet it says Operation Impunity was conducted with the assistance from the Department of Public Safety.
It stated that no federal law enforcement officers assisted.
We spoke with the Willacy county sheriff's department. The sheriff says they were not notified about the raid.
The DA's tweet did not state if any arrests were made in the two raids, but it does say their office will seize all illegal gambling machines and proceeds and prosecute all employees and owners of 8 liners in Willacy County.
