SAN BENITO, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Police officers were assaulted by a driver who attempted to flee from them after a high speed chase.
On Sunday, June 2, San Benito police responded to a residence on the 900 block of South Fannin Street in reference to a domestic disturbance.
As officers arrived they observed a maroon Chevy Tahoe leaving the area in reverse at a high rate of speed and then traveling forward on Wentz Street.
Police units gave chase to the driver through several neighborhoods until he returned back to South Fannin Street and made a run towards a home.
The driver, Filiberto Loa, 25, attempted to run inside the home, but was stopped by pursuing officers. Loa resisted being arrested and struck two officers, who sustained injuries, and both are expected to recover.
Loa was charged with assault on a public servant, evading arrest and resisting arrest with a bond set at $49,000.
