MCALLEN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Hurricane season is just around the corner. Are you ready if disaster hits?
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said hurricane season is officially June 1 to November 30. Officials say you should have an emergency kit ready. Some of the things people forget to keep are fresh batteries for a flashlight, a can opener for non-perishable food, cash in case electricity goes out and proper medication.
"Is your emergency preparedness kit stocked and ready to go should you need it June 1st?" Asked Patricia Mancha, FEMA's deputy director for this region. "If it's not, assess that. Find out what it is that you need, and little by little you have some time to purchase items."
FEMA also has a free app you can download for severe weather alerts.
