A Harlingen family is safe after a fire burned part of their home, but are mourning the loss of their dog.
Police say two units responded to the scene of the fire at about 5pm on East Monroe in Harlingen. Firefighters say the blaze started in the garage and nobody was at home at the time, but unfortunately the family's pet Chihuahua was in the garage and died in the fire. Part of the garage and a car inside were partially burnt and firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.
