HIDALGO CITY, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Custom and Border Protection officers arrested a woman attempting to smuggle over $2 million in narcotics.
On Tuesday, May 14, officers working at the Hidlago/Reynos International port of entry came into contact with a Mexican female, 19, attempting to cross into the U.S. in a 2001 Mazda Tribute.
The female was sent to a secondary inspection and the vehicle was scanned with a imaging system that revealed several packages concealed within the car's roof.
CBP officers recovered and seized 20 packages of alleged cocaine weighing over 51 pounds and one package of alleged heroin weighing nearly 4 pounds.
Officers estimate the street value of the cocaine at $1,634,000 and $397,000 for the heroin.
