Saudi man denies ill intent after pressure cooker found in airport luggage; tempers flare outside of court.
(WDIV) A Saudi man arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after federal agents said he lied about why he was traveling with a pressure cooker was in court on Tuesday.
Hussain Al Khawahir appeared in U.S. District Court in Detroit for a hearing to determine whether he'll be released on bond. He will remain in custody.
Al Khawahir was arrested Saturday on allegations of lying to federal agents and using a passport with a missing page.
"He's a victim of the time. He had with him nothing but innocent utensils. Because of what happened last month, those innocent utensils might look very guilty or dangerous to people, they're not," said Al Khawahir's attorney, James Howard.
Outside of court tempers flared when one of Al Khawahir supporters, who came to the hearing, took a swing at reporters.
