There's a verdict in the sensational murder trial of Jodi Arias. A jury in Phoenix, Arizona has decided whether the death of her ex-boyfriend was in self defense or a cold blooded killing, more from NBC's Chris Clackum.
After deliberating Jodi Aria's fate for about 15 hours over four days, the jury finally reached a verdict Wednesday afternoon.
While she showed little emotion, family and friends of victim Travis Alexander could not contain themselves.
The verdict comes nearly five years after Arias shot and stabbed Alexander and for the first two years after his death, she blamed it on two masked intruders, but changed it to self defense.
However prosecutors say that because he wanted to end their relationship and was about to take a trip to Mexico with another woman, Arias showed up at his house, unannounced in the middle of the night, had sex with him, then killed him, stabbing him 27 times and shooting him once in the head.
While, others lined up outside the courthouse each day, for a shot at a seat, one such person asked for and received $200 for their seat for one day of testimony.
The trial ends four months after it began and included 15 days of her on the stand in her own defense, where the court, in an extraordinary move, allowed the jury to question her directly.
Judge Sherry Stephens said the sentencing phase begins Thursday. The jury returns with Jodi Arias now facing a possible sentence of death as punishment.
