WESLACO, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) —
Weslaco police have confirmed the identity of the driver killed in a head-on accident.
Police say the wife identified the driver as her husband, Edel Aaron Pecina, 31, of Mission and officers continue to investigate the case.
Weslaco police are attempting to identify a driver who was killed in a head-on collision on Sunday morning.
Police were called to Expressway 83 at Westgate about a fatal accident occurring around 5:15 a.m. on May 5. Police were informed, by dispatch, about a Oldsmobile Alero driving the wrong way and at a high rate of speed on the expressway.
A tractor trailer, heading east, was struck by the Alero, traveling west, with both vehicles erupting into a large fire.
Air Evac, from McAllen, transported the male driver of the Alero to a McAllen hospital, but he was pronounced dead.
Police have not been able to identify the driver of the Alero, but do report that the vehicle is registered to a person named Edel Aaron Pecina Torres of Mission.
