CAMERON COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) —
Friends, family, and the Los Fresnos school district are remembering 44 year old Gabriel Vela who was killed on Highway 100 back in November by a driver who swerved into oncoming hitting Vela's vehicle and killing him.
Vela was an alumnus of the Los Fresnos school district, a parent, and helped volunteer his time to fix and help beautify the playground at Villarreal elementary.
Friday is Arbor Day an appropriate day to honor Vela.
"They sand blasted the existing playground they replaced some of the wood planks, replaced the swings, and painted everything they made the existing playground look new."
To remember his good friend David Hinojosa donated a tree to the school.
"I have known Gabriel for 30 years always a smile on his face, helping people never get mad or nothing, very passionate the work he did at the school and at the old school we all attended." said Hinojosa.
