RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Most college students don't graduate in four years, but in South Texas, those numbers are significantly lower. NewsCenter 23's reporter Marty Watson spoke with some students and professors about the issue.
On average, less than half of all college students across the nation graduate in four years, in the Valley, that statistic is even lower. Several students at the University of Texas in Brownsville were asked "Why?"
Whatever the reason, one thing is for certain, the graduate rate can certainly be improved. The post secondary education programs, or education that occurs at the college level, are not the only ones that make a difference. The U-Teach program at UTB is another way South Texas students can get hands on experience working with what they're most interested in.
