HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — A magnet for criminal activity is what authorities in Hidalgo County are calling eight liners and say they won't tolerate it.
Earlier this month the District Attorney's Office and eleven other organizations were involved in the raid of five eight liner establishments in Cameron County.
Although the problem is heavily concentrated in Cameron County sporadically the do pop up in Hidalgo County and now some residents say they won't put up with these businesses as Marilyn Watson stated, "I think it brings the wrong crowd, I think it is something that we don't need in our area, and especially for the safety of our family and our children."
Authorities in both Hidalgo and Cameron counties say eight liners are also a foothold for Mexican cartels into South Texas.
