MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Tax return refunds in the U.S. will average nearly $3,000 this year and for many it may be the opportunity to by that flat screen TV they have wished for, but for others it could be the perfect time to catch up with bills or put the money to good use.
Stephani Willerford and Ana Fernandez are from Mission and both received a refund. They say, "I'm actually using my tax refund wisely this year and using it as a down payment for a new home." Said Willerford." "I'm actually going to save it and try to invest it in something."Said Fernandez.
Once you receive a refund it is of course your prerogative as to how you will spend it. However, financial experts say the best way to treat yourself is to pay down that debt.
Now if you are one of the lucky that doesn't have any debt, financial experts say to atleast save half of it so you can have some cushion for a rainy day.
And no matter how big your debt or how small your refund is, we know tax season isn't a lot of fun, but wise decisions now can make the future a little less expensive.
