BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — UPDATE: Lopez High School students and employees were evacuated from the school building this afternoon after a suspicious package was found in the cafeteria. Law enforcement officers and the Brownsville Fire Department responded to the scene and evaluated the package which has been since been diffused. After the building was cleared by the police, students are being allowed to return to their classrooms and the school will be dismissed at the usual time, 4 pm. A message about the evacuation was sent to parents using the district’s SchoolMessenger rapid notification system. Law enforcement officers are investigating the package. Lopez serves approximately 2,100 students.

Brownsville fire and police department officials have responded to a reported pipe bomb threat at Lopez High School in the 32-hundred block of South Dakota Avenue. News Center 23’s Na’Tassia Finley is on the scene and reports that students have been evacuated. More details as they become available.
