McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Texas Cyber Crimes Unit arrested a McAllen man for sexually soliciting a minor online.
A joint undercover operation by the Texas Attorney General Cyber Crimes Unit, the McAllen Police Department and the Rio Grande City Police Department resulted in the arrest of Alberto Guerrero Gomez, 34, on Thursday for online solicitation of a minor and reckless driving.
Authorities report that Gomez had initiated online chats and exchanged sexually graphic text messages with someone he thought was a 14 year-old girl, but which was an undercover Cyber Crimes Unit officer.
Gomez arranged a meeting with the "girl" on April 10 at a McAllen location and when he arrived was observed waiting in a vehicle, but then he suddenly left that area at a high rate of speed. Later that evening Gomez set up a second meeting location, for the following day, and again he arrived at the location and then left suddenly again.
Police reported that Gomez had abandoned his vehicle, in downtown McAllen, and police located him in a store and arrested him. They conducted a search on Gomez and confiscated his cell phone revealing the text messages he had with the "girl".
