MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Mission High School auto tech student placed first at state and proved that it's not just a guy’s field of expertise.
Sophomore, Joanna Mendez competed in the automotive electrician contest at the state SkillsUSA automotive technology and earned a superior blue ribbon ranking.
Mendez earned her blue ribbon in a contest based upon the testing of the student’s knowledge of automobile electronic systems.
This is the first time for any female to accomplish the feat for the school district and Mendez is the only female enrolled in the automotive technology class at Mission High.
Mendez says she is pursuing a career as a mechanic and hopes to be attending the Universal Technical Institute in Houston, Texas after she graduates.
