CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — A Corpus Christi man and several other accomplices have been sentenced to federal prison for manufacturing and trafficking firearms.
Michael Yarbrough, 22, was indicted along with Ashley Yarbrough, 25, and Stephen Atkinson, 29, all three were arrested in July 2012 for unlawful manufacture and trafficking of AK-47 type firearms.
Both, Michael and Ashley Yarbrough pleaded guilty in January 2013 while Atkinson pleaded guilty in September 2012. Ashley Yarbrough, who had pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of making a false statement to federal agents, was also sentenced to three years probation. Atkinson is set for sentencing on May 1, 2013.
The investigation began in August 2011, with the discovery of an AK-47 manufacturing business at a residence during the execution of an arrest warrant by United States Marshals. Agents discovered several fully assembled AK-47 firearms were seized along with multiple handguns, gun parts and firearms in various stages of completion.
