CAMERON COUNTY, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — With the high winds and drought conditions, the Cameron County Emergency Management Office, has asked county commissioners to approve a burn ban.
Humberto Barrera, coordinator for the Emergency Management Office, says with the windy conditions a controlled burn ban could easily get out of hand.
If the ban is approved, county residents would not be allowed to burn brush at any time for 30 days as Berrera states, "We have responded to seven structure fires, five mobile home fires, seven RV fires and seven brush fires this year. That's just our office, that's around twenty four fires and that's too much hopefully that will elevate some of those incidents."
