BROWNSVILLE (NEWS CENTER 23) — A University of Texas at Brownsville government professor says she questions North Korea's credibility when it threatens its neighbors and even the US with nuclear weapons.
There have been reports that North Korea has deployed mid-range missile launchers to its east coast and reportedly warned foreign embassies it cannot guarantee the safety of diplomats.
UTB Department of Government Chair Dr. Guadalupe Correa-Cabrera says this not a credible threat and North Korea is just trying to shake down the US. and other countries for benefits.
"I believe that this is just a threat to negotiate something, to attract attention, without having something to negotiate with." said Correa-Cabrera.
Correa-Cabrera says even though this isn't a credible threat top US officials are monitoring the situation very closely.
