HARLINGEN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — It was a deadly drive by shooting…with the wrong person killed.
A woman is dead and two men are at large, with the driver of the vehicle, 27 year old Dorothy Lee Sanchez, behind bars on murder charges. The recent drive by has neighbors surprised.
"The neighborhood is very quiet, you know, we never have problems with nobody here, everybody says “Good morning,” and everybody keeps to their own business," said a neighbor.
Harlingen police identified 21 year old Mayra Bianey Oyervides as the victim.
“She just told me “hi” when she moved there and she told me she was six months pregnant," added the neighbor.
A stray bullet struck her in the head as she stood on her balcony at apartments off of Wright and G streets Monday night.
Oyervides died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The neighbor said she and her family weren't actually home at the time of the shooting, but arrived just afterwards to find emergency personnel at the apartments. She said her grandkids are now struggling with knowing something bad happened right outside where they play.
"It was hard because my grandkid couldn't sleep last night, he was scared."
Harlingen police are still investigating this crime, the motive behind the drive by has still not been released, but police are working several leads to track down the other two men who allegedly pulled the trigger.
