Mission, TX (News Center 23) — Drug runners changed up their tactics a bit this morning when trying to flee police. Instead of getting rid of the drugs, two suspects turned bundles of marijuana into flying weapons.
Just after 6:00 a.m. a Mission police officer clocked a beige truck speeding on Conway. When the officer turned on his lights, the driver took off.
The chase turned very dangerous when the two male suspects decided to unload their drugs a little early, flinging them out toward the officer.
"These bundles were not thrown at the side, these bundles were thrown directly at the unit to damage it, to stop it. In this case, fortunately the officer continues the pursuit and followed them to where they stopped and they swam to Mexico," said Cpl. Manuel Casas.
Each bundles weighs between 25 to 30 pounds each. The total weight of all the marijuana came out to 1,165 pounds.
Right now, the total damage to the police unit is unknown.
