EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Handcuffed and on foot restraints, after facing a judge is how this 25-year old teacher from Harwell Middle School walked out of this courtroom late Monday afternoon, following accusations of sexual assault to a 14-year old girl.
Ltn. Oscar Treviño of Edinburg Police says, "The victim was identified as a 14-year-old female and the suspect was identified as a 25-year-old male, it was further noted that the suspect was employed as teacher with the Edinburg Harwell Middle School "
The 25-year old teacher was identified in court Monday afternoon as Miguel Condes.
On Friday police say they received a call from the 14-year old student who claimed she was sexually assaulted by him.
Early Monday, Edinburg police caught up with him and arrested him. In a written statement from the Edinburg CISD, they say that they are fully cooperating with the investigation and that the 25-year old teacher is not allowed to have contact with students.
Meanwhile Edinburg police say they'll continue to crack down on any type of mis-conduct behavior, which puts kids at risk. Treviño says, "These types of incidents will be pursued and they will be investigated aggressively and we will not tolerate this type of behavior."
As for Condes, he faces two second degree felonies, the first for sexual assault charges,
the second for improper relationship between and educator and a student.
His bond was set for $200,000.
