WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Congressman Filemon Vela was honored by the National Down Syndrome Society with the 2013 Champion of Change Award.
The award is presented to Members of Congress whose efforts have been effective in advancing the nation's commitment for people with Down Syndrome.
Congressman Vela is a co-sponsor of the Achieving a Better Life Experience Act of 2013. The act allows families of individuals with physical and mental disabilities to open a tax-free account for qualified expenses such as education, primary residence, transportation, obtaining and maintaining employment, health and wellness and personal support.
