Pharr, TX (News Center 23) — The goal is to always cook with love. That is Judie Geil's motto every time she steps into the kitchen. Cooking is a passion she was instilled with at a young age.
"My grandmother was a good home cook and my mother loved to cook and they got me started early," said Judie Geil, amateur chef.
At the age of 71, she has now been cooking for over 65 years.
"I cook for family, feed them, and keep them happy," said Geil.
But this meal isn't for family, today she is cooking inside Saint George Orthodox Church. She is whipping up several items for the weekend farmer's market. But no matter the cause or the type of food she is making, Geil just plain loves cooking.
"It is fun for one thing, and the creative part of it is good," said Geil.
Geil knows what she loves and urges everyone to find their own passion in life.
"It fulfills, it makes you more confident in your self, it makes you feel more secure in yourself. It gives you a sense of purpose and better self worth," said Geil.
And Geil recently won an amateur cooking competition in Mission. She now owns the title of Mission's first master chef after beating out the competition with her citrus salad recipe.
