BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Millions of dollars will now help to transform three BISD High Schools into Early College Campuses.
Rivera, Hannah and Pace will all follow in the footsteps of the original college and career ready campus the Brownsville Early College Campus High School.
The Campus which opened last school year allows students to take dual enrollment classes that allows them to earn college hours at the least and up to an associates degree by the time the graduate high school, if they stay on track.
BISD Super intendant doctor Carl Montoya says this is huge deal for BISD in that many students will now save thousands of dollars in college tuition by taking these classes while still in high school.
Along with BISD,PSJA also was awarded, 5.6 Million will be split between the two districts. While the exact dollar amount has not decided, the money will go toward getting high school teachers dula certified to teach courses as well as compensations for college professors who actually teach courses at the high school campuses. Other details are still being figured out as to whether the millions will go toward the college tuition or if the universities will waive those fees.
